Product Icons

A large icon-set and an elaborate style guide to create even more icons

Together with the EBP Team I drafted a design concept for product icons for the Swiss Federal Tax Administration a subunit of the Swiss Federal Departement of Finance. Each icon represents a business application available to private enterprises and the general public. The product icons play a central role in enabling users to navigate quickly and conveniently to their goal. They therefore need to convey the message that the individual services they designate are of high quality, trustworthy, and technologically up to date, while also coming across as well-ordered and individually distinctive.
We developed the icon concept according to the federal guidelines for web design and with an eye to securing accessibility, user-friendliness, uniformity, expressiveness, and flexibility. We designed a well documented process to make sure future icons can be created in the same style and quality. And of course we created numerous product icons along the way.

I love this concept a lot because it doesn’t happen a lot that you get tho think conceptually about icons and to create a system that will work for loads of icons and could be adapted by any designer later in time.
